What problem or issue does the paper address? Why is it important?
The topic of the paper is of exploring storage area networks that are based on IP networking approach. This approach appeared because of the problems which the host system-attahced storage model had. Those problems are lack of scalability and manageability. The following approaches to IP storage area networks are considered in the paper: Software, TOE(TCP Offload Engine), and HBA(Host Bus Adapter). For comparing these approaches two types of analysis have been done. The micro-benchmark analysis supposes comparison these approaches in terms of latency and throughput. The macro-benchmark analysis projects the results obtained in the micro-bench analysis onto application performance.
What are the main contributions of the paper and why are they important?
The main contribution of the paper is of comparing three approaches for IP storage area networks.
How significant are these contributions relative to previous work?
I am not familiar with the previous work in details, but I think that the comparison made in the paper is important for practical purposes.
Give detailed comments justifying your view of the paper.
The paper considers an interesting topic, the structure of the paper is ok. I did not find any substantial drawback in the papar. The only thing about the structure that I would like to mention is of abcense any words about future work.
